The supplementary Languages cd was introduced in Cognos 8.1. If you required another language than English, French, German or Japanese, you had to install and configure this extension yourself. After installing you had to add your language in the Cognos configuration manager. Actions menu -> Edit Global Configuration. If you did not configure the supplementary languages in Cognos configuration manager, you do not see them in Cognos Connection -> preferences - regional options for the option product language.
In version 8.4 the default languages are extended to 12 languages and are automatically installed with the server components. There is no separate download / installation required anymore.
